School Education in Indonesia

The Indonesia government regulation No.73/1991 on out of¬ school regulation states that out-of-school education is aimed at: a) meeting the educational needs of the community which cannot be met by the school education system; b) helping learners to develop themselves at their earliest age to uplift their standard of living and their self-esteem; c) providing learners with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to develop themselves; d) providing knowledge and skills to get jobs and income; and e) preparing learners to continue education at higher levels. In this respect, the 1945 constitution states that

every citizen has the right to attain education in order to have knowledge, capability and skills at least equal to knowledge, capability and skills of basic education graduates.
